Refined Search Tree Technique for DOMINATING SET on Planar Graphs

چکیده
We establish a refined search tree technique for the parameterized Dominating Set problem on planar graphs. Here, we are given an undirected graph and we ask for a set of at most k vertices such that each other graph vertex has at least one neighbor in this set. We derive search-tree based fixed-parameter solving algorithms with running times O(8n) and O(8k + n), where n is the number of vertices in the graph. For our search tree, we firstly provide a set of reduction rules. Secondly, we prove an intricate branching theorem based on the Euler formula. In addition, we give a family of example graphs showing that the bound of the branching theorem is optimal with respect to our reduction rules. Our final search tree is very easy (to implement); its correctness analysis, however, is involved.

A refined search tree technique for Dominating Set on planar graphs
We establish a refined search tree technique for the parameterized Dominating Set problem on planar graphs. Here, we are given an undirected graph and we ask for a set of at most k vertices such that every other vertex has at least one neighbor in this set. We describe algorithms with running times O(8n) and O(8k+n), where n is the number of vertices in the graph, based on bounded search trees....
متن کاملA bounded search tree algorithm for parameterized face cover
The parameterized complexity of the FACE COVER problem is considered. The input to this problem is a plane graph G with n vertices. The question asked is whether, for a given parameter value k, there exists a set of k or fewer faces whose boundaries collectively cover (contain) every vertex in G. Early attempts achieved run times of O∗(12k) or worse, by reducing the problem into a special form ...
متن کاملCut and Count and Representative Sets on Branch Decompositions
Recently, new techniques have been introduced to speed up dynamic programming algorithms on tree decompositions for connectivity problems: the ‘Cut and Count’ method and a method called the rank-based approach, based on representative sets and Gaussian elimination. These methods respectively give randomised and deterministic algorithms that are single exponential in the treewidth, and polynomia...

Abstract What are the performance guarantees of the algorithms used in practice for clustering and network design problems? We answer this question by showing that the standard local search algorithm returns a nearly-optimal solution for low-dimensional Euclidean instances of the traveling salesman problem, Steiner tree, k-median and k-means. The result also extends to the case of graphs exclud...
متن کاملXue-gang Chen TREE DOMATIC NUMBER IN GRAPHS
A dominating set S in a graph G is a tree dominating set of G if the subgraph induced by S is a tree. The tree domatic number of G is the maximum number of pairwise disjoint tree dominating sets in V (G). First, some exact values of and sharp bounds for the tree domatic number are given. Then, we establish a sharp lower bound for the number of edges in a connected graph of given order and given...
